A dog can know the work at hand and yet still need a handler who understands how to support it. A handler can have clear ambitions and still need time to learn what their dog is telling them. The working relationship between dog and handler grows when both receive direction, that allows them to tap into their potential.
Begin with the
individual.
There is no single, one-size-fits-all picture of a finished companion. For one owner, it may be a dependable partner for a handful of treasured days each season. For another, it may mean a versatile dog prepared for demanding work across the upland fields, marshes and the testing grounds.
The starting point begins with a conversation about the dog as it is today and the life its owner hopes to share with it. Those details help shape a plan and they give the work its purpose.

Build an Understanding.
Then nurture it.
At Double “B” Kennels, we value progress that the dog understands. A task is more meaningful when it becomes part of a calm, confident working relationship. Our aim is to build a foundation for the dog that can support what comes next.
That approach asks us to pay attention: to the individual dog, to its experience and to the way it responds to the work. It also asks us to keep the owner involved in the conversation. Because knowing what your dog has learned matters. Understanding how to work together matters even more.
The handler is
part of the program.
Good handling is an ongoing practice. Learning to read the dog, communicating with it in a clear tone and recognizing the moments that call for patience are all part of developing a stronger partnership.

Private instruction creates an opportunity for you to ask questions. In real time. In what areas would you like to feel more confident? Where in the training process are you or the dog becoming confused? What would make your training time together more rewarding? These questions and others like them help us shape a program with a practical purpose.
Carry it
into the field.
A finished program (finished in terms of your goals and wishes) not only provides you with a dog who gives a performance that is admired. It provides you with a confidence that you can carry into the future together! A dog that understands its work, a handler who understands the dog and the quiet satisfaction of a partnership that continues to grow. That is what we want you to have when your time with us is complete.

More than a trained dog — A Finished Companion.
